Degree Requirements

Master's Program
- 1) Master's degree candidates must earn 24 credits for the satisfactory completion of the master's degree. At least 18 credits for a master’s degree must be earned from this department with average B grade. Up to 6 credits from other departments could be earned through the recommendation of the guidance professor.
- 2) Master's program requires either one presentation in international/domestic conferences or one publication in international/domestic journals.
- 3) Master's degree candidates must submit a research plan to the degree guidance committee within 3 semesters for document qualification examination for dissertation.

Doctoral Program
- 1) Doctoral degree candidates must earn 36 credits for the satisfactory completion of the doctoral degree. At least 24 credits must be earned from this department with average B grade. Up to 12 credits from other departments could be earned through the recommendation of the guidance professor.
- 2) Doctoral program requires at least one publication as the first author or corresponding author in international journals (SCI or its equivalents).
- 3) Doctoral degree candidates must submit a comprehensive research plan to the degree guidance committee within 5 semesters for oral qualification examination for dissertation.

Integrated Master's and Doctoral Program
- 1) Integrated master's and doctoral degree candidates must earn 60 credits for the satisfactory completion of the doctoral degree. At least 42 credits must be earned from this department with average B grade. Up to 18 credits from other departments could be earned through the recommendation of the guidance professor.
- 2) Integrated master's and doctoral program requires at least one publication as the first author or corresponding author in international journals (SCI or its equivalents).
- 3) Integrated master's and doctoral degree candidates must submit a comprehensive research plan to the degree guidance committee within 7 semesters for oral qualification examination for dissertation.
- Students with undergraduate training in other fields must earn 9 credits from undergraduate courses offered by this department. The courses will be chosen by the guidance professor. These undergraduate courses might be exempt from the requirements with the approval of the guidance professor and the head of the department.
- The regulations are applied to the new graduate students of the first semester 2015.
Appointment of Guidance Professor
- The guidance professor can be appointed from faculty members who have at least one publication as the first author or corresponding author in international journals (SCI or its equivalents) in the last 3 years. In the case of Landscape Architecture, the SCI or its equivalents is evaluated according to the department's achievement conversion factor for Landscape Architecture.
- The regulations are applied to the new graduate students of the first semester 2010.
Guidance Committee and Qualification Exam for Dissertations
- The guidance committee for all degree programs consist of 4 faculty members including the candidate’s academic advisor, and the members are recommended by the candidate’s academic advisor in duplicate and appointed by the head of department.
- In principle, the candidate’s academic advisor may not be the chair of the committee.
- Success in qualification examination for dissertations will be determined by approval of 2/3 of the committee, and the chair of the committee must attach an examination report and submit it to the head of the department.
- Two of the committee members at most can be appointed as committee members of dissertation examination.
- The regulations are applied to the new graduate students of the first semester 2015.
